English Language Preparation + 2-Semester Pathway Pre-Masters - Business, Media and Social Sciences - Transfer to Master of Arts - International Security

The English Language Preparation program is a chance to improve your English language skills before beginning your pathway program. This program will you develop the required language skills to be successful in your intended pathway and degree program. 1-Semester Pathway and 2-Semester Pathway pre-sessional English are available. 1-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 overall (5.0 in all subskills) and 2-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 Overall (minimum 4.5 in all sub-skills).

This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Sussex. In the Pre-Master's programme, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon the successful completion of the pathway program.

The Pre-Masters in Business, Media and Social Sciences, provides a route to a variety of postgraduate degrees at the University of Sussex. English language and career skills are combined with subject-specific modules such as social sciences, cultural studies, a variety of business skills like accounting and business management to provide you with a strong foundation for your chosen business, media and social sciences degree.

The conduct of international security is changing. This is in response to new technologies, tactics and challenges. ‘Security’ itself is a contested term, with stark disagreements on its use. Join this Master of Arts in International Security to gain a rigorous understanding of contemporary and emerging security challenges.

You explore the many different understandings of ‘security’, their histories and futures. You look at how they matter to war, insurgency and foreign policy today.

You learn to produce informed analysis of a range of issues including: • imperial and civil wars

• rising powers and military intervention • violence against civilians • terrorism and new technologies of war • intelligence and resilience • weapons of mass destruction and biosecurity.

We host the specialised Sussex Centre for Conflict and Security Research, the Centre for Advanced International Theory, the Centre for Global Health Policy and the Centre for Global Political Economy.
