Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Business Management and Criminology
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Business Management and Criminology combines the theory, policy and practice of criminology and criminal justice with key business topics such as responsible management, business ethics, innovation and globalisation. The course offers opportunities to undertake a Business Management work placement, enabling learning to be explored in real-world contexts and bringing academic study to life.
Business is treated as an inherently practical discipline, with strong emphasis placed on real-world learning. Academic expertise is used to connect theoretical business frameworks with the practical realities of the business environment. Links with the business community and professional bodies enhance the applied focus and ensure the curriculum remains current and industry-relevant.
Criminology modules provide the concepts, theories and methods required to understand crime and criminal justice, while also supporting the development of practical skills needed to contribute meaningfully to criminal justice processes. Teaching is informed by the expertise of research-active lecturers who engage with organisations locally, nationally and internationally, and whose published research is embedded within the curriculum.
The course is professionally approved through accreditation by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), which has independently assessed that the programme meets its high standards for management and leadership education. This accreditation reflects the quality of the degree and is awarded to students who successfully complete the required Business Management modules in the first and second years.
As a Joint Honours degree, the programme allows the study of two complementary subjects, offering flexibility to study both disciplines equally or to major or minor in one subject. This structure supports tailored academic pathways aligned with individual interests and career aspirations, with module choices varying accordingly.
