Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Tourism Management (N800) (Placement Year)
Bournemouth University - Talbot Campus
What you will study
Accredited by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) the Tourism Management Institute and the Institute of Hospitality and recognised as an Institute of Travel and Tourism (ITT) Centre of Excellence, this four-year course was one of the first in Tourism Management to be offered in the UK and has been refined over three decades to give graduates an excellent understanding of how private and public organisations work together within the tourism sector. Undergraduate students who will successfully complete the Digital Marketing unit have the opportunity to achieve the IDM qualification level four Certificate in Digital Marketing, as a result of exemptions awarded by the IDM for the Digital Marketing unit.
Students will have the chance to learn a new language and BU will regularly provide students with opportunities to apply what they have learnt to relevant real-world contexts. Leading industry speakers and events, consultancy projects, ‘live’ scenarios and field-trips to tourism hot-spots are an integral part of the course. Bournemouth is also a perfect location to study tourism, being a popular seaside resort with many tourism and hospitality businesses and opportunities where students can practice their skills in a popular tourism destination.
Students can also expand their horizons and spend some time studying abroad with one of BU's 40 partner institutions in the USA, Australia, Europe and Asia. What’s more a 30-week supervised work placement in the UK or overseas will give students the opportunity to turn theory into practice in a business environment, ensuring students gain practical experience that could help them secure a management-level position immediately after graduating.
