What you will study
The MA Games Design at Middlesex University focuses on market insight-driven development and ethical worldbuilding, preparing students to create persuasive, playable prototypes. The program explores theories of play and interaction, agile workflows from concept to XR, and multidisciplinary collaboration. Core modules emphasize storytelling, creative AI, and professional practice, supported by dedicated work experience opportunities.
The program develops advanced skills in market-driven game design, user experience, narrative design, and project management. Based in London, a global hub for creative technology and game innovation, students gain insight into how AI and data analytics are transforming gameplay, storytelling, and player experience. Collaborative projects, industry briefs, and placements provide hands-on experience, culminating in the creation of professional game prototypes ready for pitching to studios or investors. Ethical, sustainable, and inclusive practices underpin all aspects of the course.
Students study within MDX Studios’ state-of-the-art facilities, including games labs with high-end NVIDIA hardware and industry-standard software such as Unreal Engine. The Motion Capture studio supports industry-level VFX and virtual production, while the Kit Hub provides professional cameras, sound recording equipment, and VR headsets. Partnerships with Canon, Sony, and AVID ensure access to the latest creative technologies. The program also fosters connections with the creative industries and local community through collaborations with Screen London.
MA programmes feature one- and two-year options with embedded, credit-bearing work placements on live industry projects.
