Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Entrepreneurship and Popular Music
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BA (Hons) Entrepreneurship and Popular Music programme develops creative and performance skills supported by the study of the aesthetic, analytical, sociological, and historical dimensions of music, combined with a leading-edge entrepreneurship curriculum that is vocationally relevant and reflective of the complex nature of contemporary business. The course prepares students for careers within a rapidly changing global business environment, supporting the development of agility, innovation, and resilience. Students also build essential self-directed learning and teamwork skills, both of which are vital for success in professional settings.
The programme benefits from access to an extensive range of music-making facilities located at the Markeaton Street site, including state-of-the-art recording studios, rehearsal spaces, music technology laboratories, and three post-production suites equipped with the latest software. These facilities are designed to match the specifications of professional studios across the UK and internationally. A wide selection of instruments, amplifiers, and outboard equipment is available, alongside a classic 48-channel Neve recording console.
The university is recognised as a leading institution in research into surround-sound technologies, with all control rooms accommodating 5.1 speaker arrays. A dedicated surround-sound research laboratory further enhances technical training through a 40-speaker ambisonics surround array that enables experimentation with height and depth parameters. Study is also supported by the Business School, which opened in 2025, where students work alongside start-ups and small businesses, creating opportunities to network with and learn from local business leaders and entrepreneurs.
