The Master of Science in Geology degree helps further knowledge in Earth Sciences through a comprehensive MSc program that includes theoretical study, research, as well as lab and field experience. Students will develop their geoscience skills and toolkit and contribute to ground-breaking research, from the formulation of a thesis problem to its solution.
The Harquail School of Earth Sciences and its Mineral Exploration Research Centre (MERC) are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and analytical instruments, allowing students and researchers to conduct cutting-edge research.
Students will also get to choose a specialization based on their interests and the department's areas of expertise. Laurentian's renowned faculty are leaders in their sub-disciplines, recognized through international and national awards.

• Ore deposit geology • Volcanology • Structural geology • Sedimentology • Paleontology • Mineralogy • Igneous and metamorphic petrology • Geophysics • 3D computer modeling
MSc applicants are encouraged to choose their own specialization, or consider pursuing a funded research project. Graduates of the M.Sc. program at Laurentian are specialized for professional careers including:
• exploration geologist • geophysicist • geoscience consultant • government, academic or researcher • planetary scientist • science communicator, for example in a museum or science centre • analytical laboratory technologist • specialist in 3D computer modeling and geostatistics • mining and commodities researcher, financial analyst, or investment banker
