Bachelor of Arts - History of Art and English (QV33)
University of Nottingham - University Park
What you will study
Art and English use different languages to ask common questions:
How do we feel? What's happening in the wider world? What is our place in society? During your three years you'll explore an incredible breadth of art - fiction, painting, poetry, sculpture, drama, architecture, graphics, photography, film and more
Combining these two subjects into one degree gives you a rich understanding of communication - visual, written and spoken - across centuries and cultures.
English modules You'll study English language, literature and drama from Old English to the present day. We have one of the most diverse range of modules of any UK university so you can follow your existing passions and explore new topics.
History of Art modules You'll explore visual cultures across periods, media and societies. All the time you'll be questioning. Why that method? Why that subject? How did people react then? What does it mean now?
No existing knowledge of History of Art is needed.
Combining the subjects Although studied separately you'll be able to choose modules that complement each other, allowing you to look at the same topic in different ways. For example:
explore a specific period (Reformation and Revolution: Early Modern literature and drama 1588-1688; Art at the Tudor Courts, 1485-1603) delve further into a theme you're passionate about (Gender, Sexuality and Media; Language and Feminism) Project work and a dissertation give further opportunities to draw the subjects together.
