Overview

The English Language Preparation program is a chance to improve your English language skills before beginning your pathway program. This program will you develop the required language skills to be successful in your intended pathway and degree program. 1-Semester Pathway and 2-Semester Pathway pre-sessional English are available. 1-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 5.0 overall (5.0 in all subskills) and 2-Semester Pathway Pre-sessional English requires Academic IELTS for UKVI 4.5 Overall (minimum 4.5 in all sub-skills).

This program consists of a pathway program offered by StudyGroup at the International Study Centre at the University of Sussex followed by entry into a university program offered at the University of Sussex. In the Pre-Master's programme, you will study courses related to your intended field of study alongside English to develop and enhance your skills as a student. Advancement into your intended program depends upon the successful completion of the pathway program.

The Pre-Masters in Business, Media and Social Sciences, provides a route to a variety of postgraduate degrees at the University of Sussex. English language and career skills are combined with subject-specific modules such as social sciences, cultural studies, a variety of business skills like accounting and business management to provide you with a strong foundation for your chosen business, media and social sciences degree.

The media continues to be central to gendered power relations and identification processes. The Master of Arts in Gender and Media combines theoretical and methodological approaches from the social sciences, cultural studies and the humanities.

You’ll learn from some of the most influential academics in feminist and queer studies. Sussex has a long-established reputation for research excellence in gender studies. You'll have seminars, workshops and lectures on cutting-edge research in the field from a variety of disciplines.

You’ll explore the relationship between media, gender and sexuality. You’ll also explore how gender and sexuality frame, and are framed, by such issues.

The degree allows you to: • study texts drawn from a range of historical and national contexts

• interrogate historical and contemporary approaches to feminism, postfeminism, queer theory, ‘crip’ theory and masculinity studies • develop an advanced understanding of gender and sexuality.

This MA is for you if you’re already in the media field or wish to enter it. Or you may be in an occupation where gender awareness would be an advantage.
