In this program, students develop hands-on skills and gain experience in a variety of construction-related skilled trades. Using project-based learning techniques, students focus on applying the basics of entrepreneurship and sustainability within the construction industry. Students are introduced to a variety of construction focused courses including carpentry, cabinetry, plumbing, electrical techniques, small engine mechanics, drafting and heating and cooling. In addition, students prepare to make informed decisions related to the next steps in their education and careers. The Construction Techniques certificate provides graduates with a wide range of career opportunities. Graduates acquire a broad set of construction industry skills applicable to general labour positions as well as entry into apprenticeship programs. In addition, graduates may choose to continue their education in trade-specific post-secondary techniques programs to further develop specialized expertise.
