Overview
If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students English language level (UKVI IELTS score).
Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.
Master of Science - Artificial Intelligence Artificial intelligence deals with the theory, design, application, and development of biologically, socially and linguistically motivated computational paradigms.
Students focus on linking artificial intelligence techniques to real-world applications and projects, including artificial intelligence in business and financial applications, artificial intelligence in games, artificial intelligence in biological sciences and medicine, and artificial intelligence in industrial control. This unique University of Essex course covers the theoretical, applied and practical aspects of artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on: genetic algorithms, evolutionary programming, fuzzy systems, neural networks, connectionist systems, and hybrid intelligent systems.

Their research covers a range of topics, from materials science and semiconductor device physics, to the theory of computation and the philosophy of computer science, with most of the research groups based around laboratories offering world-class facilities.
This course opens up employment opportunities designing intelligent software – in banks and businesses designing prediction systems, in computer games companies designing adaptive games, in pharmaceutical companies designing intelligent systems that model a given drug and its various interactions, and in heavy industries designing control systems.
Recent graduates have progressed to a variety of senior positions in industry and academia. Some of the companies and organizations where former graduates are now employed include: Electronic Data Systems, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Bank of Mexico, Visa International, Hyperknowledge, Hellenic Air Force, and ICSS (Beijing).
