Overview

The International Incorporated Master in Energy and Sustainability is a one or two-term course that leads to a variety of postgraduate degree programs offered by The Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP) at the University of Dundee. CEPMLP is a well-known graduate school specializing in international business transactions, natural resources, and energy law and policy.

The minerals industry is experiencing rapid changes due to increasing environmental and sustainability concerns. This industry plays a vital role in the energy transition and the production of essential components. Through this course, students will explore these changes and gain insight into the industry’s past practices and its path toward a sustainable future.

Students will delve into the regulatory and contractual framework surrounding the minerals industry, examining the process of granting mining rights, production procedures, and decommissioning practices.

Additionally, the course will cover the decision-making processes for governments and companies, focusing on how governments can implement changes to outdated practices to enhance environmental and sustainability performance.

Mining projects present various regulatory challenges, such as illegal mining activities and social and economic impacts. Students will learn about the different stages of the industry and the evolving role of minerals in the global economy.
