If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students' English language level (UKVI IELTS score).
Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.
Master of Arts - Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling The University of Essex MA Translation, Interpreting and Subtitling is the first of its kind to offer written translation, oral interpreting and film and video subtitling within a single course. This complete and integrated approach to language services is demanding but it provides students with the expertise to work as a freelance or in-house translator in business, film, TV or tourism.
This course is offered with the combination of English and one of French, German, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish. Students can be a native or near-native speaker of any of these languages, as they learn to translate to and from both languages. Students work with native speakers in developing their ability to move accurately and quickly between their chosen language and English in a variety of contexts.
