Bachelor of Science - Applied Bioscience - Biopharma (Co-op)

Applied Bioscience is an interdisciplinary program that integrates Biology and Chemistry with applied research and industry experience, preparing students for careers in the expanding biopharma and beverage sectors. By studying bioscience at Acadia, students engage with a dynamic field that bridges scientific theory and practical application, while developing both technical expertise and professional competencies. The curriculum is designed to include business-focused learning, strong industry engagement, and a structured 12-month co-operative education component.

The program reflects Acadia’s location in the Annapolis Valley, a region recognized for its growing concentration of beverage production and biopharmaceutical innovation. From vineyards and craft breweries to diagnostics and drug development organizations, these industries are embedded within the academic experience. Collaboration with local industry professionals enables students to address real-world research challenges and apply contemporary biotechnology practices in project-based learning.

Experiential learning is a core component of the Applied Bioscience program. Students will: Complete foundational laboratory science courses supported by extensive weekly lab sessions Undertake 12 months of paid co-operative work placements Participate in field visits to regional industry sites and beverage producers Engage in practical learning opportunities across laboratories, field environments, and research partnerships Graduates of the program are well-positioned to enter the life sciences sector with a combination of industry experience, applied skills, and a Minor in Business Administration. The degree also provides a strong academic foundation for further study or professional pathways in health sciences, including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and education.
