Humber Polytechnic - North
The Mechanical Technician – Millwright diploma program at Humber College offers a comprehensive education in mechanical systems, industrial automation, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Designed as a two-year program that builds on the foundation of the Mechanical Techniques – Millwright certificate, it combines theoretical understanding with hands-on technical training aligned with Ontario’s trade and industry standards.
Students develop a broad skill set through coursework covering areas such as engineering drawings, CAD data and layout processes, metallurgy, electric and electronic controls, CNC turning, applied trade calculations, power transmission, and workshop practices. The program concludes with a capstone project, allowing students to apply engineering principles and problem-solving skills to real-world industrial applications.
Taught by faculty with extensive industry experience, the program emphasizes precision, systems integration, and emerging technologies that are shaping the future of modern manufacturing.
The program includes an optional co-operative education placement, available to students in the September intake. This opportunity allows participants to apply their classroom learning in a professional work environment, gaining hands-on experience directly related to their field of study. Through the placement, students can develop new technical and professional skills, gain insight into workplace practices, and build industry connections.
Students accepted into the co-op stream complete their placement between Semesters 2 and 3. Because space in the co-op option is limited, detailed information on the application process is provided during the first semester, giving students the opportunity to apply at that time. While placements are not guaranteed due to the competitive job market, Humber College offers a variety of support services to help students prepare for and secure co-op opportunities.
