What you will study

The BSc (Hons) Cyber Security with Foundation Year provides a comprehensive pathway into a career as a cyber security specialist. The programme benefits from an academic partnership with the Chartered Institute of Information Security (CIISec) and offers access to industry-standard laboratories equipped with cutting-edge software development tools such as Microsoft Azure, Matlab, Encase, Wireshark, Nmap and Kali Linux. An optional industrial placement year enhances professional experience, broadens networks, and strengthens employability upon graduation. The course also offers flexibility to transfer to other programmes within the Computing and Mathematics portfolio after the first year, and all assessment is conducted through coursework rather than written exams.

With the increasing frequency of security-related incidents, expertise in cyber security is in high demand as organisations seek to defend themselves against cyber attacks. The programme prepares students to meet these challenges by covering security policies, legal and regulatory requirements, risk and vulnerability assessment, security architecture and development, information assurance methodologies, ethical hacking and incident management.

Graduates gain the skills to critically analyse and evaluate responses to security-related incidents, as well as the technical competence to specify, design, build and maintain secure physical infrastructure and software solutions, ensuring robust and effective protection for organisational systems.
