Overview
This passage is about understanding the Earth's systems interactions and complexities. One can explore everything from liquid metal in the Earth's core to moving continents on the Earth's surface. The composition of the deep Earth to the rapidly changing composition of the Earth's atmosphere is studied. Geophysics can be used to monitor the processes that result in catastrophic events, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic eruptions. The process of remote sensing is employed to gather vast amounts of data, often obtained through satellites, aircraft, and drones. Data can be collected from the edges of space to the very center of the Earth in order to understand, model, and predict how the Earth behaves.
The interdisciplinarity and interconnected nature of geophysics define much of what is done in this field. This is also why geophysics plays such an essential role in creating a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
