Overview
If students hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, but don’t meet the entry requirements for a master’s, a Pre-Master’s can help them gain a place on a postgraduate degree. For progression to the 1st year of a postgraduate degree at the University of Essex. Course length is determined mainly by students English language level (UKVI IELTS score).
Students on all course lengths take a set of common or similar modules to gain a solid base of skills for university. If their course is longer than 2 terms, students will take additional modules designed to improve one or more of their English language level, academic skills, and basic knowledge of particular subjects.
How does international law peacefully resolve disputes? What role do various international organisations play in the shaping and operation of international law? How does international law play a role in current events?
In an increasingly globalised world, international law is a vibrant and fast-moving area of law. This LLM International Law offers the opportunity to study across a wide range of modules in the areas of Public International Law, Human Rights, Commercial, Trade and Maritime law. Students will learn about the foundations of the international legal system, and they will examine theoretical perspectives and the practice of its institutions and processes, while specialising in particular areas.
Throughout the course students will have the opportunity to study key areas, including but not limited to:
• Public International Law • International Human Rights Law • International Law of the Sea • Carriage of Goods by Sea • Financing International Trade • Commercial Conflict of Laws
Students will be able to tailor their postgraduate degree to their interests with a range of optional modules, and at the end of their degree students will be awarded one of the following qualifying titles depending on their module choices: LLM International Law, LLM International Law with Human Rights, LLM International Law with Business Law.
This law course will develop intellectual and critical faculties, encouraging students to think independently and teaching them to present rational, coherent and accurate arguments orally and in writing. It will provide them with an excellent foundation for any career.
