Overview
Master of Laws- International Corporate Law and Governance with Solicitors Practice with Solicitors Practice is the first programme of its kind, offering a clear and supported pathway to qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales.
The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), the professional body responsible for overseeing solicitor training and qualification, has introduced the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) as the new route to qualification. This LLM programme aligns with that route and provides a distinct framework for preparing students for the SQE.
The programme includes specialist preparatory modules—SQE1 Legal Theory & Solicitors Practice and SQE2 Legal Theory & Solicitors Practice—which provide targeted one-to-one support and guidance to help students perform effectively in both the SQE1 and SQE2 assessments.
In addition to SQE preparation, the LLM delivers a rigorous legal education, offering an in-depth grounding in practical legal and transferable skills. The course develops legal, academic, and clinical competencies at every stage of study.
The programme is taught by academic experts and practising lawyers who integrate real-world clinical legal experience into the learning environment. Their expertise equips students to graduate as capable, reflective practitioners ready for qualification as solicitors in England and Wales.
LLM students benefit from engagement with staff in the Law Clinic, who possess national and international legal experience and have practised both regionally and in the City. This collaboration enhances employability and contributes to the two-year Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) required by the SRA for solicitor qualification.
Upon graduation with an LLM in International Corporate Law and Governance with Solicitors Practice, graduates will have:
• Gained in-depth knowledge in areas such as International Company and Corporate Governance Law, International Competition Law, International Commercial Contracts and E-commerce, International Commercial Dispute Resolution, International Law of Taxation, and International Insolvency Law • studied for and passed SQE1, required for qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales • Completed preparation for SQE2, ready to sit the assessment upon completion of studies • Undertaken substantial work experience in the Law Clinic, contributing to the two-year QWE requirement set by the SRA •
