Through the Legal Assistant diploma at Southern Alberta Institute Technology, students can discover how to be an integral part of a legal practice with highly specialized legal administrative skills.
In this practical two-year diploma, students instructors are lawyers and former legal assistants who show them how to assist their lawyer with important tasks on various files.
In students substantive courses, they master relevant terminology for corporate law, real estate law, family law, criminal law and more. Students practice legal assistant tasks such as preparing a separation agreement, a criminal law file and a corporate minute book.
In students capstone course, they simulate a real law office to integrate all their legal assistant knowledge. At the end of the program, students demonstrate their professionalism and expertise to potential employers in their one month practicum placement.
Students graduate as a skilled legal assistant and highly employable in law firms and the court system.
