Mohawk College - Stoney Creek Campus for Skilled Trades
Students will learn the systems that make elevators, escalators and moving walkways work. Build skills to install, maintain and service elevating devices in accordance with regulations and safety practices.
Program Highlights: The Mechanical Technician – Elevating Devices diploma program covers the in-class apprenticeship curriculum for students who may be looking to complete their apprenticeship. The diploma program focuses primarily on: • This program is accredited by the Technical Standards & Safety Authority (TSSA) • Installation, maintenance and servicing elevating devices • Regulatory and industry best practices • Build an understanding of elevating device electrical, mechanical and hydraulics systems • Graduates of this integrated technician-apprenticeship program are exempt with the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, from all of the in-school training portion of the Elevating Devices Mechanic apprenticeship program (636E). • Blended theory classes that are face-to-face and on-line.
Learning outcomes: • History of elevating devices • Mechanical and electrical systems • Operation, installation, maintenance and procedures for traction elevators, elevators and moving walkways • Hydraulic systems • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings. e.g. AutoCAD • Machines and circuits including single phase circuits, transformers, 3-phase electrical systems, elementary control systems and electric machines • Elevator hydraulic systems and installation • Motors, generators, controls and AC drives • Lifting devices for individuals with physical disabilities • Circuit tracing • Modernization and alterations for elevating devices
Fast Track allows students to complete a two-year Diploma program (non co-op) in 16 months. Students will study for the 16 months consecutively, without a summer break.
