What you will study
The BA (Hons) Business Management and English combines two complementary disciplines to enhance employability and develop expertise across both subject areas, producing versatile graduates with a wide range of transferable skills. The course is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), enabling graduates to gain an additional professional qualification in Management and Leadership alongside the degree, as well as access to professional mentoring and CMI member benefits.
The programme develops strong business, planning, organisational and communication skills while offering a distinctive English curriculum grounded in literary, critical and cultural theory. Students explore diverse and thought-provoking areas of English studies, including the evolution of fantasy, representations of crime, the legacy of Empire, cultural politics, existentialist writing, classical myth and the nineteenth-century realist novel. Literature from across the globe is studied within frameworks that examine identity, desire, cultural politics and the nature of reality.
By integrating Business Management with English, the degree broadens cultural awareness through engagement with writing from different historical periods and regions, including Europe, America, Africa, the Caribbean and Canada, while also developing an understanding of organisations, their management and the global environments in which they operate. Academic expertise is used to connect theoretical business frameworks with the practical realities of modern industries, supporting a wide range of future career pathways.
