Overview
The University of Houston trains students for the profession with the profession, in the fourth largest city in the country. Students learn in intimate, collaborative, ensemble based classes. Professional artists and guest lecturers work with students, allowing them to network and gain practical experience. The faculty and professional artists are able to give one-on-one mentoring and career consultation.
Houston has a large arts community that gives University of Houston's students access to internships, observer ships, and over hire possibilities with organizations such as: Houston Grand Opera, Houston Ballet, Alley Theatre, Stages Repertory Company, and Local 51.
In addition, the School of Theatre and Dance produces the Houston Shakespeare Festival, a summer festival, which performs to approximately 30,000 patrons, each season.
