Program Description Foundation Studies Program (Fast Track) - Life Science (X0G:4) (0100809):

The Foundation Studies program is a direct academic pathway to first-year undergraduate degree study, or an equivalent. The program acts as a bridging course for international students who wish to study a university undergraduate degree course but who don’t yet meet academic requirements and/or have the English language skills for tertiary study.

To successfully complete the program, students must achieve a 50% pass in all units, including English.

Upon successful completion of the course, graduates can enter one of the University of Tasmania’s undergraduate degree courses.

Bachelor of Information and Communication Technology and Bachelor of Science - Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) (93H):

The double degree allows students to deepen their knowledge and expertise within two separate study areas. This means students can choose from University of Tasmania’s range of exciting, diverse courses and they can embark on a journey as unique as they are.

The University of Tasmania’s science degree provides students with a foundation of core skills in science, analysis, and rational thinking. They have options to focus their studies in one or more scientific disciplines and learn the methods to apply their skills and knowledge to the practical needs of industry, business, and government in both scientific and non-scientific roles.

The BICT is a specialist degree with both a theoretical and practical focus. It develops technological understanding and skills that are in high demand world-wide, plus builds project management and other business soft-skills that make students an ICT professional.

GIS are becoming increasingly prevalent in everyone day-to-day lives. As a result, skilled GIS analysts are in high demand across the workforce.

Students get an opportunity to learn: • Programming Fundamentals will provide students with an overview of programming and its role in problem-solving, and strategies for designing solutions to programming problems with reference to the Java programming language. • GIS: Spatial Analysis will give students more advanced skills in the analysis and presentation of spatial data. As more businesses and scientists get to grips with the advantages of using GIS to manage and interpret their spatial data, there's increasing demand for graduates with strong skills to manage, analyse, and visualise these spatial datasets in a GIS. • Students also get an opportunity to learn about Software Design and Development, Remote Sensing: Drone Photogrammetry and GIS: Advanced Spatial Analysis.
