Integrated Foundation - Bachelor of Science (Honours) - Construction Management
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The BSc (Hons) Construction Management with Foundation Year begins with a Foundation Year, providing an ideal pathway for students who may not meet the formal entry requirements or who wish to build skills in a new subject area. This preparatory year focuses on general concepts in design and construction science, alongside essential academic and scholarship skills for technologists. It is particularly beneficial for those considering a career change or seeking a gradual introduction to university-level study.
Following the Foundation Year, students progress to the honours degree, which is accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES). The programme equips students with practical skills in construction technology, data interpretation, and construction management theory, encouraging critical analysis of competing approaches.
The degree includes opportunities for hands-on learning, development of problem-solving and decision-making skills within construction, and optional industry placements to enhance employability. Students may also participate in UK and European study trips. As the programme advances, students deepen their knowledge through modules such as Interdisciplinary Professional Practice and Independent Study, taking major steps towards professional membership of organisations such as the Chartered Institute of Building, which can lead to Chartered status.
