Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - International Relations and Business Management
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The programme takes a transdisciplinary approach to the study of world affairs and global issues, enabling students to tackle a range of topics and gain insight into trends that affect human societies, policies, and the planet, while equipping them to navigate and influence some of the world’s most important challenges. The course also incorporates the practical application of business through real-world learning, linking theoretical business frameworks with the realities of contemporary business practice. Extensive connections with the business community provide opportunities for students to engage with organisations and explore business in a practical context.
Within the International Relations modules, students have the opportunity to devise solutions to real-world problems and present findings to external audiences. For example, a work experience module in the second year involves collaborating with a group, organisation, or company on a project that recommends or implements change. In the third year, students engage in advanced community or digital projects, providing further opportunities for practical problem-solving.
Business Management modules focus on organisations, their management, and the global environments in which they operate, equipping students with practical skills applicable to real-world business and management scenarios. Learning is extended beyond the classroom through industry projects, placements, and internships.
The programme is professionally approved by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), a UK professional body dedicated to promoting excellence in management and leadership. CMI accreditation confirms that the course meets high professional standards, and students receive this accreditation upon passing the Business Management modules in the first year and selecting and passing the required modules in the second year.
