College Diploma - Practical Nursing (PNRS)

The Practical Nursing program incorporates a philosophy and curriculum centred on caring as the foundation of nursing practice. Students work with experienced, compassionate faculty to develop the knowledge, skills and judgment required to practise in today’s complex healthcare system. The program emphasizes safe and competent professional practice, accountability, collegiality, collaboration, leadership and ethical care.

Students receive high-quality, innovative nursing education in classroom and simulation laboratory settings. Through a combination of individual and team-based learning activities, they explore the lived experiences of individuals, families, groups and communities. Clinical partnerships provide practical experience in diverse healthcare settings, enabling students to integrate their knowledge while caring for clients across the lifespan. To support quality practicum experiences, placements may be offered at various agencies throughout the region.

The Practical Nursing program is currently approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario under Category 1, its highest ranking. Graduates are eligible to apply for registration as Registered Practical Nurses in Ontario.

The program includes a clinical placement component that allows students to gain clinical experience under the supervision of an experienced registered or licensed professional.
