Queen's University
What you will study
Aside from plants, all of the raw materials used by human society come from minerals extracted from the earth. This program prepares students for careers in the minerals industry and related environmental and technological fields. Mining Engineering students will study a broad range of disciplines focused on locating, extracting, producing, refining, utilizing, reusing, recycling, and disposing of mineral and metal products and byproducts. The program teaches students how these processes can be carried out efficiently and competitively, with a focus on sustainability and the environment.
Areas of specialization include mine-mechanical, mineral processing and environmental, and mining.
The first year of study in Engineering and Applied Science is based on a common curriculum and serves as an introduction to all of the academic plans offered by the Faculty. The choice of academic plan the student intends to follow in the second and subsequent years is made in February in the Winter Term of the first year.
Note: Students in this program are also eligible for the Queen’s Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP) which provides 2nd or 3rd year students with a 12-16 month work experience. The internships are paid, professionally supervised, career-related positions offering students the opportunity to learn about current advances, practices, and technologies in business and industry.
