Master of Science - Electronics and Information Technology

University of South Wales - Treforest

What you will study

Electronics and information technology are vital for global industries to function, and career opportunities continue to increase in the sector. The MSc Electronics and Information Technology course will develop students' ability to manage new technologies and ensure high levels of product quality. It is ideal if students want a career in the electronics or IT industry, or if they already work in the engineering industry and want to enhance their potential.

Mandatory modules are the Product Management and the Major Project. Students will then select the rest of their study programme from the modules below in discussion with the course leader:

• Satellite Communications • Digital Communication Systems • Applied Digital Signal Processing • Modern Power Electronics • Embedded System Design • Optoelectronic Devices for Telecommunications • Product Innovation and Entrepreneurship • Masters Major Individual Project (core)

This course is delivered in three major blocks to offer an intensive but flexible learning pattern. With this flexible master's course, students can tailor their qualification to suit their individual needs and build on existing studies and experience. The electronics course includes a 15-week project, which students may conduct in industry and could lead to job opportunities when they graduate. Students will work on industrial case studies and be involved in ‘live’ mini-projects.

In addition to providing dedicated Mac and PC labs, USW has specialist facilities for the whole range of courses. The University has recently opened a Calypto lab, which has software licences and support for the Catapult C toolset. This is used to develop advanced electronic products, such as the next generation of smart phones, more quickly and cost-effectively and to help engineers overcome design challenges in the increasingly complex world of board and chip design.

On graduation from the MSc Electronics and Information Technology, there are many exciting engineering and management careers open to students. These range from design and development of the latest electronic products, to the application of information technology to support industrial applications.
