Master of Arts (Honours) - Scandinavian Studies - Danish, Norwegian, Swedish (R600)

The University of Edinburgh

What you will study

Scandinavia's languages, along with its rich history, politics, and culture, have had a significant impact on a global scale. The popularity of Danish, Norwegian, and Swedish continues to grow. The screen and literary cultures of Scandinavia receive widespread critical acclaim, and the Nordic Model, a socio-economic concept, is extensively studied.

The program offers individuals the chance to develop advanced spoken and written language skills in modern Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish while delving into the past and present of Scandinavian culture.

Prior knowledge of a Scandinavian language is not required, as beginner courses are available. By the third year, students will possess the necessary skills to spend a year abroad in Denmark, Norway, or Sweden.

While specializing in one Scandinavian language, students will also gain an understanding of the other two languages taught at a degree level. In the second year, for instance, students can choose to explore the similarities and differences between Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian.
