Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Law and Accounting
University of Derby - Derby
What you will study
The degree provides an integrated study of the English legal system alongside accounting, enabling students to understand how laws are made and reformed, how companies develop financial strategies, and the role of accountants in ensuring business success. Students explore a range of legal, factual, and conceptual sources to gain a comprehensive understanding of the operation and methodology of the English Legal System, while also building a solid foundation in accounting, including financial and management accounting.
Practical application of learning is emphasised from the outset. Law students benefit from a replica Crown Court at One Friar Gate Square, providing a realistic courtroom environment. Accounting and finance students gain experience in the Financial Markets Lab, which simulates a real trading floor and allows direct engagement with financial data, information, and analytics.
Opportunities to enhance employability include an optional Accounting placement year between the second and third year of study, with support provided for securing placements, as well as the alternative of completing summer internships.
The course is offered as a Joint Honours degree, allowing study across two subjects. This structure is ideal for students wishing to combine areas of interest, pursue specific career goals, or explore a new discipline alongside a familiar one. The Joint pathway provides flexibility in module selection during the second and third years, though students do not choose a major or minor subject.
