What you will study

This combined course, BA Archaeology and History with Study Year Abroad, offers insights into the richness and variety of past human experience, covering a wide range of subjects and approaches. Students will gain knowledge of a range of chronological periods, as well as develop their ability to analyse change over time and to compare cross-cultural and abstract concepts. This flexible course enables students to tailor their degree to their interests and apply what they learn in the real world.

The University of Reading's expertise in archaeology starts with the earliest humans and spans up until the medieval period. The focus is mainly on British, European and Near Eastern Archaeology, but also explores other regions across the world. Students will learn about Burial Archaeology, Material Culture, Bioarchaeology (including human remains), Forensics, Past Environments (including Geoarchaeology), Museums and Gender Archaeology. Benefit from dedicated Archaeology Building and specialist equipment, and learn in purpose-built laboratories.

This four-year degree course includes a year's study at a university abroad in the third year, giving students the opportunity to develop valuable professional and international experience.
