Master of Law (LLM)

The LLM programme equips students with the legal knowledge and expertise needed to effect real change in the world, whether working in the legal profession, business, government, civil society, international organisations, or academia.

Participants focus on the critical analysis of law and economic, social, and global justice, positioning them for leading careers in legal practice, policy, or research. The degree is delivered at Loughborough University London, a well-connected talent hub located on the site of the London 2012 Olympics, and taught by internationally recognised experts at the forefront of legal research and education.

Through their selection of modules, students engage with a range of contemporary legal and policy issues, exploring current thinking on those matters. They examine how law can contribute to economic, social, and other injustices, as well as how it can be used to promote social and global justice.

The programme provides the intellectual, analytical, and critical skills necessary to understand and apply a variety of legal and interdisciplinary theories and concepts in the context of contemporary challenges and controversies. It enables students to undertake independent research and develop their own arguments on topics of personal and professional interest.

The thought-leaders who have developed and teach on the programme conduct innovative research in their fields and bring extensive experience in preparing students for diverse and rewarding career paths.

Over the course of the programme, students will:

• Develop advanced knowledge, expertise, and critical awareness of current issues in national, transnational, and international law and regulation • Engage in critical evaluation of the role of law in contributing to economic, social, and other injustices, as well as its role in advancing social and global justice • Receive a comprehensive grounding in theoretical and interdisciplinary perspectives and transferrable legal and analytical skills for research, practice, and policy • Develop advanced legal research and writing skills, building capacity for independent research, including pathways to further doctoral study • Enhance their employment prospects in the legal profession, business, government, international and non-governmental organisations, civil society, or academia
