Bachelor of Arts (Honours) - Contemporary Theatre and Performance - Applied Acting and Devising (W499)

The BA (Hons) Contemporary Theatre and Performance at the University of West London is a practice-focused course designed to equip students with the skills needed to work in the performance industry as actors, theatre-makers, directors or arts facilitators.

Through practical activities, students will learn how to perform, create, facilitate and produce their own performance projects.

Students will explore performing arts practices from a wide range of global and local contexts and learn inclusive and diverse approaches to theatre-making, as well as how to use new technologies in performance and stage work in unconventional spaces.

In the first year, students will study alongside BA Acting for Stage and Screen students in core modules covering acting, movement, voice and text-based skills.

As the course progresses, bespoke modules focusing on contemporary, unconventional and socially conscious performance practices will support students in developing their creative potential and individual artistic identity.

Recent creative projects have included a verbatim theatre show touring local schools, voice recording for ASMR immersive audio, a short film written, directed and produced by final-year students, and the premiere of a new play by an award-winning playwright.

Final-year students have also undertaken work placements with organisations such as Angel Shed, The Walking Theatre and Lyric Hammersmith.
