Master of Arts - Dance Movement Psychotherapy

The MA Dance Movement Psychotherapy provides comprehensive training in clinical dance movement psychotherapy, fostering creativity and self-expression while developing the skills and knowledge required to apply for professional registration as a dance movement psychotherapist. The programme is accredited by the Association for Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK (ADMP UK), offering potential pathways to UKCP accreditation during and after graduation. Successful completion of the course enables eligibility to register as a Dance Movement Psychotherapist with ADMP UK.

The course encourages the development of existing knowledge and experience while promoting new skills within the field of clinical dance movement psychotherapy. It is grounded in humanistic and integrative psychotherapy principles and emphasises creative exploration through body, movement and dance. Teaching incorporates lectures, presentations, reflexive discussion and experiential activities, linking theory and practice, and integrating current research into clinical placements. Weekly tutorials and supervision sessions support the development of ideas and critical reflection. Assessments are designed to foster creativity and reflective practice, including presentations, video production, facilitation and written critiques.

Students also engage in personal therapy throughout the programme, either individually or in a group setting, with 80 hours of personal therapy—at an additional cost—required for professional registration. The course provides exposure to diverse perspectives through guest speakers and global approaches, while clinical placements offer opportunities to build professional networks and develop collaborative projects with employers. Students may also present work at conferences and develop research initiatives, enhancing both professional and academic growth.
