Graduate Diploma - Opera (URI)

This Opera Diploma is a two-term program for singers and collaborative pianists with an undergraduate music degree or diploma, aimed at deepening their opera knowledge and skills. Running from September to April, it offers specialized instruction in voice, collaborative piano, and stagecraft. Students receive intensive training from leading directors, clinicians, and coaches, covering movement, acting, audition readiness, stagecraft, coaching, and opera business. The interactive environment explores all aspects of creating opera and music theatre. Build skills in interpreting piano/vocal scores, following conductors, and exploring orchestral color. Gain experience in coaching, recitative, and pit performance. Many prepare audition materials for graduate school or professional opportunities. Vocalists refine technique, develop audition skills, and create publicity materials. Collaborative pianists enhance accompanying and rehearsal techniques while deepening interpretive skills. Both groups work with prominent directors and clinicians in movement, acting, stagecraft, publicity, and makeup.
