Advanced College Diploma - Architectural Technology (PARTY) (Optional Co-op)
Sheridan College - Hazel McCallion - Mississauga
What you will study
Program Description In the first two years of this Architectural Technology Advanced College Diploma, students will learn core architecture skills such as CAD software, building and assembly systems, document preparation and envelope detailing. In the final year, students will get to work with real clients in the community, train with cutting-edge software, prepare project plans and more. They will even build a portfolio to help find work after graduation.
Architectural Technology students can participate in the optional paid co-op. The co-op placement will help students gain real-life experience and make contacts in the architecture and construction industries. Previous student placements have included roles at the City of Mississauga and PCL Construction.
As students progress through their studies, they will study specialized topics. These topics include urban design, adaptive re-use of existing structures, renovations, sustainability standards and more. Topics are frequently vetted by industry experts to ensure they’re up-to-date with current construction and architecture practices.
Upon graduation, students will be ready to contribute from their first day on the job. Graduates will qualify to legally use the term ‘Licensed Architectural Technologist’ by fulfilling requirements of the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario. Graduates can also join the Technologists arm of the Ontario Association of Architects, enjoying access to their resources and in-house liability insurance.
During Sheridan's annual Architecture Week, students will leave class to collaborate with other architecture students on design challenges from real-world clients. Learners will be further immersed in the world of architecture with Sheridan's speaker series, where industry leaders visit campus and discuss current architectural topics such as sustainability, new buildings and more.
Sheridan has pathway agreements with Lawrence Technological University and Boston Architectural College for graduates of the Architectural Technology program to pursue their Master's of Architecture degree in as little as 2 to 3-years.
