2-Semester Pathway - Pre-Master's Programme - Continue to Master of Arts - International Development

The Level 6 Pre-Master’s Programme (PMP) is a two-semester programme, with guaranteed progression to a wide range of Master’s degrees at Loughborough University.

This Pre-Master’s Programme (PMP) is designed to prepare international students for postgraduate study in the United Kingdom. The PMP will allow them to improve their English while learning the study skills and research methods that they will need during their Master's degree studies. They will study academic modules relating to their chosen progression route. Each semester consists of thirteen teaching weeks, one reading week, and an assessment week. The weekly hours of study varies by semester with them on average studying around 18-21 (and up to 21) hours per week. Each module will have an assessment schedule, which will be completed by the end of the appropriate semester. Assessments will be designed to demonstrate learning across the individual modules of the programme and to allow them to experience a wide range of the assessment methods used in United Kingdom postgraduate programmes. Assessments will include coursework, essays, reports and other structured assignments, oral examination and unseen written examinations.

Master of Arts - International Development: The Master of Arts - International Development programme is designed for people with an interest in exploring how dynamics of international development relate to processes of social change, citizen engagement and struggles for social justice. While this master’s programme has a particular focus on the Global South, it recognizes the interconnectedness of world development. By studying an International Development course at a time of such dynamic change, widespread activism and social movements, students will critically reflect upon a breadth of major traditions, theories and frameworks of inquiry relevant to the contemporary challenges of international development.
