Overview
The programme is co-designed and co-delivered with industry. It aims to provide students with state-of-the-art knowledge and industry-ready skills for several of the top fastest-growing jobs, as identified in the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report 2025.
It equips participants for a career in either the booming space sector, with the global space economy projected to grow to £490 billion by 2030, or in AI and Data Analytics, which are among the world’s top three fastest-growing jobs.
Students will develop a solid grounding and skills in:
• the space ecosystem and its various enabling technologies • machine learning (ML) • big data analytics and visualisation • advanced applications of AI in space data and systems
Participants will learn how space technology plays a critical role in daily life. Satellites orbiting over 160 km from the Earth can:
• connect individuals with friends, families, and colleagues • facilitate road, ocean, and air navigation • support homeland security and disaster relief • enable smart and sustainable agriculture • forecast the weather • gather vital information about the planet, such as greenhouse gas concentration, melting glaciers and polar ice, deforestation and land use, ocean acidification, coral reef health, and much more
Graduates will qualify as data scientists and AI/ML engineers who understand space technologies including geospatial, navigational, communication, exploration, and space cybersecurity. They will be equipped to fill various roles within the space industry or apply their AI and data analytics skills to work in other sectors of the economy. They may also choose to pursue further studies towards a PhD.
