Bachelor of Science - General Science
Mount Royal University
What you will study
Science is everywhere. A general science degree will build the student's foundation in science, mathematics and technology so they can better understand the field and prepare for their future. In the final year of study, students complete two capstone courses (a senior seminar and an interdisciplinary project) that provide understanding and exposure to how science and technology intersect and influence society. These capstone experiences are excellent preparation for further post-secondary studies, for professional programs, or for direct entry into the workforce.
Students can choose from a range of courses to attain a general science education. Complete two of the following six concentrations to earn a degree: Biology Learn about the science of life in one of three areas: anatomy and physiology, cellular and molecular biology, or ecology and evolution. Chemistry Get a mix of classroom and practical laboratory instruction with a focus on organic chemistry, biochemistry or the study of molecular structures. Geography Take courses in either physical geography and conservation, or mapping and geographic information systems (GIS). Geology Explore different aspects of geology through courses in physical geology, paleontology, hydrogeology and others. Mathematics Build the tools needed to understand the mathematical basis of all sciences. Take courses in algebra, calculus, modelling and statistics. Physics Study mechanics, waves and optics, and quantum mechanics. Career Possibilities • Teacher • Physician • Laboratory technician • Data administrator • Pharmaceutical sales • Science and technology writer • Project manager • Analyst
