Master of Arts - Education

The MA Education forms part of a suite of three pathways designed for individuals seeking to further develop their knowledge and practice within the field of education. Students on this programme study alongside those on the MA Inclusive Education and MA Education, Ethics and Leadership routes, creating opportunities to engage with diverse perspectives. This collaborative learning environment supports the development of critical thinking, professional practice, and a deeper understanding of key educational issues. The course is designed for education practitioners and policymakers working across public, private, and third-sector organisations, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to enhance their effectiveness and advance their careers.

The programme offers a range of modules that allow for specialisation, with flexibility built into assessment choices. The curriculum reflects current developments and contemporary challenges in education and is delivered by an experienced academic team actively engaged in research and publication. Areas of study include pedagogy, ethics in education, education policy, transformational education, and research methodologies. In the final stage of the programme, students complete a dissertation based on a chosen topic within the field of education.

Teaching takes place at the Francis Close Hall campus in Cheltenham and includes lectures, guest lectures, seminars, and workshops. Active participation and the sharing of ideas are central to the learning experience. Assessment is entirely coursework-based. As part of a broader postgraduate community, students are encouraged to reflect on their practice and apply their learning to meet the needs of their learners, supported by a range of additional academic and professional development opportunities.
