Postgraduate Diploma - Web Development
University of Roehampton
What you will study
This programme is for students looking for a career change or simply have an interest in web and software development. This degree will open up a pathway into the IT industry, as it requires no previous undergraduate experience in the field of computing,
This is a blended degree that brings elements of computing and digital media into one single package, ensuring that students are taught the technical skills of software development and delivery, as well as design elements of digital media. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in the summer work placement module, which means students can gain valuable work experience relevant to their career aspirations.
Over the year, students will study software development through a comprehensive introduction to programming with Python, before moving onto full-stack development with JavaScript, meaning that students will become an accomplished programmer and meet the requirements needed to join the web development industry. To compliment this, students will also study basic and advanced web design to ensure they graduate as a well-rounded developer with a flair for digital media.
Additionally, students will be taught how to store and retrieve data, as well as learning about the security aspects of IT. By completing the Cybersecurity module, students can become a Certified Ethical Hacker through the EC-Council.
To finish the programme, students will undertake an end of year project based on their own interests in the field which is designed to meet professional requirements.
The programme course follows an active blended learning style, with some lectures replaced by workshops and seminars. This means that students will be in a learning environment focused on collaborative learning in the lab spaces in our state-of-the-art media centre, the Sir David Bell Building, and be immersed in an environment that students will experience in the IT industry.
Students will graduate with an ability to work at the intersection between computing and digital media, and have the skills required in both fields to become an accomplished web or software developer.
