Italian at University of Liverpool has a distinctive approach to help students become highly proficient in Italian and critically understand its history and culture: one that develops the ability of students to engage confidently with Italian language, history and culture inside and outside Italy, in the Italian peninsula as well as in the context in which students live and study. By learning about history, sociolinguistics, film and literature through the lens of Italian, students develop a crucial set of linguistic and cultural skills to navigate the transcultural processes of the of the world in which they live.

Studying Criminology as 50% of the degree gives students a thorough understanding of the role of criminology in society. Year One introduces them to criminology and serves as a foundation for the second and third years. By Year Three, students will be able to study from a range of areas that include: Crimes of the powerful; Community and public involvement in crime and criminal justice; The risk society; Criminal victimization; Youth crime, youth justice and social control. In Year Three students may wish to study for their dissertation if they have completed the research methods modules. Alternatively, students can take the applied social research module and carry out a piece of research commissioned by a local agency.
