The College, Swansea University
What you will study
Program Description Contemporary finance and business are underpinned by mathematics, and Swansea's Mathematics for Finance degree reflects a close connection with industry. The three-year BSc Mathematics for Finance degree allows students to investigate the number theory studied by Pythagoras and the financial mathematics depended on every day in Wall Street. It covers a range of material including pure mathematics and applied mathematics. Students will also concentrate on stochastic processes and stochastic analysis, which are central for applications to finance.
The student's learning will be shaped by inspirational and internationally-renowned applied mathematicians including Prof Jiang-Lun Wu, Professor of Mathematics and expert in stochastic processes and their application to problems from economics and finance, and Professor Eugene Lytvynov, expert in quantum probability. Students will be joining a university that holds a TEF Gold Award, UK Government recognition for teaching excellence.
Mathematics graduates typically earn salaries 50% higher than the average graduate. Mathematicians are highly sought after in lucrative industries such as the actuarial profession, the financial sector, technology and systems administration. Swansea's graduates have recently gained employment at organisations including AXA, British Airways, Deutsche Bank, Shell Research, Health Authorities and Local Government.
