College Diploma - Mechanical Technician - Precision Skills (MTPS) (Co-op)

The Mechanical Technician – Precision Tooling, Machining, and CNC Ontario College Diploma with Co-op prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing, with a focus on precision tooling, computer numerical control (CNC), and modern machining practices.

Students develop precision skills that are in high demand across the manufacturing sector. They learn to safely set up and operate conventional machine tools and complex machining equipment, including CNC lathes, mills, and related accessories. The programme also develops their ability to manufacture components, contribute to the design of jigs and fixtures, produce tools, moulds, and dies, and troubleshoot and repair production tooling.

Through practical, hands-on learning, students use accurate measuring and testing methods to ensure the quality and precision of manufactured components. The co-op component provides additional workplace experience and helps students apply their technical knowledge in professional environments.

Graduates may pursue opportunities in the aerospace, energy, mining, automotive, and advanced manufacturing industries. Potential career paths include CNC programmer, CNC set-up technician, tool and die maker, mould maker, millwright, general machinist, and other precision manufacturing roles. Responsibilities may include designing, producing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex tooling, moulds, dies, and related equipment. Individuals with strong precision skills are in demand across Canada.

Graduates are eligible for exemption from the Level 1 in-school training requirements for the apprenticeship curricula associated with Precision Machining and Tooling, including General Machinist 429A, Tool and Die Maker 430A, Mould Maker 431A, Pattern Maker 443A, Machine Tool Builder and Integrator 430M, and Tool/Tooling Maker 630T.
