College Certificate - Pre-Health Sciences - Pathways to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees (1094)

This two-semester Ontario College Certificate program prepares students for admission to and future success in diploma- and degree-level Health Sciences programs and other post-secondary studies. The curriculum provides the knowledge and skills required to meet admission requirements for various diploma and degree programs and may include transferable post-secondary credits where applicable.

Students develop foundational knowledge and skills in communications, mathematics and science, preparing them for the academic demands of subsequent programs. Studies in anatomy and physiology, biology and chemistry are complemented by the option to take physics. The program also provides opportunities to explore the health sciences and related careers while developing the general education and essential employability skills mandated by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

Required courses include communications, biology, chemistry and mathematics. Students may also choose between a physics course and a social science course. Communications courses strengthen academic writing and critical-thinking skills, which are particularly valuable for future success in programs such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Students gain hands-on experience in microscopy and other fundamental laboratory techniques. They may also use the Nursing Simulation Lab to enhance their understanding of anatomy and physiology.
