University of Houston
The Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching and Learning program is for students interested in teaching children from early childhood through the eighth grade or special education at all levels. This major incorporates teacher certification preparation into its curriculum through the University of Houston Teacher Education Program.
Students who would like to pursue teaching certification at the Secondary level (8th -12th grade) or in art or music, must major in the subject they wish to teach. Students interested in teaching at the secondary level must declare an education minor.
The University of Houston's future teachers learn to teach with the latest research-based strategies and modern technologies from a world-class faculty. Students participate in continued field experiences, doing the real work of teachers in real schools. The urban setting encourages them to value diversity, and meeting the needs of increasingly diverse classrooms is one of the major goals of the program.
