Master of Arts (Honours) - German and Social Policy (RL24)
The University of Edinburgh
What you will study
The combination of German and Social Policy is considered an excellent choice for joint honours, as it allows for the study of a modern language within its cultural context, as well as the examination of welfare distribution and policies that impact society. This program includes extensive language training, including a year abroad.
The courses offered in this program provide opportunities to develop professional skills in various aspects of the German language, including writing, speaking, presenting, and translating. Additionally, students will have the chance to explore German-language literature, film, and theatre, analyzing them in relation to historical and political developments spanning from the eighteenth century to the present day.
The focus of this program lies on understanding social and economic change, its causes, and its consequences for society. Students will critically reflect on the development of policies, while also gaining knowledge about the policy-making process within the United Kingdom. Furthermore, the influence of international bodies such as the European Union and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development will also be studied.
