Bachelor of Arts - Communication Studies (Optional Co-op) (UZA)

Media serves as a conduit for information dissemination, while individuals communicate to shape interactions. People access news via Snapchat, express issues through blogs, cultivate identities on Facebook, and create autobiographies on Instagram. Despite evolving methods, the human need for connection remains strong. The Communication Studies program equips students with critical skills to navigate contemporary communication challenges and understand the evolving mediascape influencing society. It examines communication forms and practices through six areas of emphasis: • Media and communication history.

• Media and cultural theory.

• Visual communication.

• Global communication.

• Cultural and creative industries.

• Digital media studies.

Students gain foundational knowledge of mass media and a critical perspective to become reflective, influential citizens. They analyze communication within social, economic, political, and cultural contexts. This approach prepares students for careers in professional communications, publishing, politics, nonprofit work, and public relations, as well as advanced programs in journalism, business, and law.
