What you will study

University Pathways Fast Track at RMIT UP is an accelerated pathway designed for high-achieving international students, preparing them for university in half the time of a Foundation Studies course. Delivered over one semester by RMIT UP (CRICOS provider number: 01912G), a fully owned entity of RMIT University, the program equips students with the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for future academic success.

Located in the heart of Melbourne, RMIT UP’s specialist staff support students throughout their journey, while providing opportunities to build global and social networks that contribute to success at RMIT and beyond.

To ensure students get the best start to their studies, RMIT offers careers counselling, as well as academic and welfare support services that can be accessed flexibly.

University Pathways Fast Track features focused, discipline-based streams, allowing students to align their studies with their interests and goals. Available streams include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Art, Design and Architecture, Business, and Communication and Social Context.

Prospective students are encouraged to contact an RMIT international advisor for assistance with their application and to determine the most suitable study option.

Bachelor of Software Engineering - Professional (BP096P25) (116687M) RMIT’s Bachelor of Software Engineering develops the advanced industry knowledge and skills required for graduates to work as competent software developers, with the potential to progress into leadership roles. The program provides a strong foundation in computer science and mathematics, alongside in-depth expertise in software architecture, processes, methodologies and quality frameworks.

This four-year degree includes two years of study, followed by a one-year industry placement, and a final year of study. The placement offers a valuable opportunity for students to build professional and technical skills while expanding their industry networks.

Students gain experience working within complex software development environments, including operating systems, communications, web software, databases and applications, and explore all aspects of the software engineering process. The degree focuses on the full software development life cycle, extending beyond programming to include analysing and meeting user needs, as well as designing, testing and deploying software.

The program also emphasises the development of software solutions through integrating large codebases into functional applications, as well as maintaining and improving existing systems.

This degree is suited to students interested in developing large-scale software systems, creating highly efficient products and systems, and combining an interest in mathematics and systems design with computer science.
