Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) - Electrical Engineering (H645)

Edinburgh Napier University - Merchiston Campus

What you will study

The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) – Electrical Engineering (H645) is delivered entirely through face‑to‑face teaching, typically over two to three days each week. Learning takes place through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory sessions, enabling students to engage with concepts from multiple perspectives. Lectures introduce the key principles and technical methods that underpin electrical engineering, while tutorials provide opportunities to apply theory to real‑world problems, work through practical examples, and receive individual guidance from academic staff. Laboratory sessions form an essential part of the programme, offering extensive hands‑on experience with electrical machines, power‑system software, and equipment used for modelling generation, supply, and network design.

As students progress through the programme, the emphasis moves from developing core engineering skills to addressing the complex challenges faced by contemporary electrical‑power and renewable‑energy industries. The curriculum explores the operation of modern electrical grids, methods of energy generation and transmission, and the control of machines and drives within large‑scale systems. Students also gain experience with industry‑standard tools used to analyse electrical networks and design efficient, sustainable power systems.
